Elda Nelson

Services for Elda Nelson, 83, of Chico 2 p.m. Monday at Van Hook Funeral Chapel.

She died Thursday at a local hospital.

Mrs. Nelson was born April 25, 1905, to John and Harriet Hanna in North Dakota. She was reared and educated in St. Thomas, N.D., where she attended college and later became a schoolteacher. She taught in Wild Rose, N.D. until her marriage to Charles Nelson in Grand Forks on April 25, 1927. The couple moved to Chico in 1939.

Survivors are her husband, Charles "Willie" Nelson of Chico; two daughters, Vivian Sprangler of Chico and Millie Stephenson of Colorado Springs, Colo; three sons, Virgil Nelson of Orland, Ellsworth Nelson of Pilot Hill and Jerry Nelson of Auburn; one sister Minerva Smith of Stockton; 13 grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

One brother, Herman Hanna, preceded her in death.

The Rev. Larry Hobbs, of the Evangelical Free Church, will officiate at the service.

Visitation will be held from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Van Hook Funeral Chapel.

Burial will be in the Chico Cemetery.

Van Hook Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
